We backup files on our fileservers for two purposes:
- To help users who accidentally destroyed the wrong file (the most
often used reason)
- To be able to restore systems in case of complete failures
or catastrophies, including
offsite backups (most fileservers use raid to deal with disk failures)
Users can view and read recent versions of their own files via
filesystem snapshots.
