Print jobs

All printers accept postscript (PS) and PCL jobs. The printserver will also accept pdf, gif, jpg, png and plaintext printjobs and convert them to postscript. But if you want full control over the conversion you should do the conversion to postscript (or PCL) before you send the printjob. Note: Windows will do this conversion automatically.

Color Printing

We have several HP color laserjet printers in the network. They are available to staff members only.

The color printers have two paper trays. One tray contains transparancies, the other tray contains plain paper. The paper tray is the default paper source.
To print on transparancies you select media type Transparancy. Selecting the tray by number will probably fail, because the media type overrules the tray selection!

Make sure to insert transparancies for laserprinters in the printer. Other transparancies will melt, causing serious damage.

Accounting

Staff can print for free. Students will have to pay for use of the Xerox multifunctionals (SCMFxxx).

Known issues

Printer stopped

Sometimes a printer hangs: The print queue grows and grows, yet nothing gets printed.

The problem may be that a printjob was submitted that wants to print on 'legal' or 'letter' paper. The printer waits for an operator to change paper in the tray, restart by pressing start or shift/doorgaan.

You can try to restart the printer by pressing start or shift/doorgaan.

Paper jam

Sometimes a printer jams: somewhere inside the printer a sheet of paper got stuck.

Sometimes the last few sheets of paper in the tray give problems.

• switch off the printer
• gently open the printer cover
• gently remove the sheet from inside the printer
• close the printer cover
• make certain there is enough paper in the tray
• switch on the printer
• restart the printer by pressing start or shift/doorgaan.
