General servers

We have several servers for special purposes. Most will be available automatically for a specific task, or you will know about them via a project you work on.

Servers for a specific task, such as E-mail or filesystems are described on the page of the service.

Staff servers

linux: shell.cs.uu.nl aka adonis.cs.uu.nl

General purpose linux server with a 32-bit Linux installation like a desktop linux machine. Reachable from the outside with ssh. You will need a pre-established ssh-key, explained on the remote access page.

To not disturb remote workers, heavy calculations should be run on venus or titan.

linux: tux.cs.uu.nl aka venus.cs.uu.nl

System for heavy calculation jobs, with multiple CPUs. Venus is a Dell Poweredge 1950 with a quad core CPU and 4 GB memory. It is installed with the 32 bits version of our desktop image.

linux: titan.cs.uu.nl

System for heavy calculation jobs, with multiple CPUs. Titan is a Dell Poweredge 1950 with a quad core CPU and 8 GB memory. It is installed with the 64 bits version of our desktop image.

linux: publinux.cs.uu.nl aka oler.cs.uu.nl

Our public staff linux desktop. A normal PC installed with our standard linux image. Currently in the coffee-room.

windows: strangelove.cs.uu.nl

For staff members, machine strangelove runs windows 2000 with citrix server, so you can access it using the citrix or rdesktop client, available under Solaris, Linux, Windows.

/sw/pkg/rdesktop-1.6.0/bin/rdesktop -g 1200x900 -d staff -n hostname strangelove

You may have to do first : rm ~/.rdesktop/licence.hostname

Students servers

linux: shell.students.cs.uu.nl

General purpose linux server with a 32-bit Linux installation comparable to a desktop machine. Available for those who want to use specific unix tools. Also available from the outside via ssh.
