Students account migration to soliscom accounts

For years we have given our students accounts specific for students.cs.uu.nl resources. Due to the end of the computer systems group specific for computer science this will end and we will migrate to Solis accounts. This helpdesk page will be updated to keep the users informed of the status and the details.

Students storage

Students home directories

Students homedirs will be synced to beta students storage. Your cs data will be stored in the subdirectory CS-data. You should not touch data in this subdirectory between 23 April 2010 and 14 June 2010.

The Beta windows image does not support roaming profiles. We do not sync the data from your roaming profile to the new storage.

Accessing your CS homedir from beta systems

Open \\home.students.cs.uu.nl\cslogin in Windows explorer or smb://home.students.cs.uu.nl/cslogin in the Gnome file browser and log in with STUDENTS\cslogin and your cs windows password. This will be available until 1 October 2010.

Accessing data in your old roaming profile

Some users had documents and settings in their old roaming profile they want to access. For example documents on your desktop were stored in your roaming profile. You can access that roaming profile via the method above as \\home.students.cs.uu.nl\cslogin\NT-Profile.

Students public webspace

Will be synchronized to beta students storage in the subdirectory CS-data/www. You should not touch data in this subdirectory between 23 April 2010 and 14 June 2010. After 14 June 2010 you may move this data to the www subdirectory of the beta students storage to make it available for your beta personal web site. The choice not to do this move for you was guided by the fact that a number of users were already using this webspace. PHP in safe_mode is enabled on the beta students webserver. Get in touch with the servicedesk if you want the old url to redirect.

Students internetprogrammeren webspace

A new server for internetprogrammeren in the new environment will be set up. The old server (tricolor) will run until the summer in the old setup for those students who need to finish things.

Students e-mail

All computer science students e-mail is automatically forwarded to their solis-mail mailbox since 12 May 2010.

Do not set forwards from solis-mail to @cs.uu.nl or @students.cs.uu.nl addresses. This will cause a mail-loop, which we will break by throwing away your incoming mail.

We plan to maintain currently existing students e-mail addresses (both @cs.uu.nl and @students.cs.uu.nl) as forwards to solismail addresses until you finish your studies. So your address in current publications will keep working. The current mailboxes on mail.students.cs.uu.nl will be removed, this is currently planned for 1 october 2010. Should you want to keep your current mailarchive, open a modern mailreader such as thunderbird and drag the folders to solismail.
