Get the client from: VPN client for MacOSX download

Doubleclick on the .dmg file, it will open as a virtual disk with the client software. The disk will contain the package Cisco VPN Client. Double click on that to start the installation. Reboot the machine after the installation is finished.

The client will need a profile to connect to the VPN server. This profile contains information on how to connect to the VPN server.

The profile can only be found when you are logged in at computer science. Staff users can find the profile at windows path \\netshare\projects\vpn\Solis-VPN.pcf and copy it to the intended client system (for example: mail it to yourself, copy it to a USB drive). Students can find the profile at windows path \\netshare\projects\vpn\Solis-VPN.pcf On the Windows client, use the menu Connection Entries and select Import ... to import the profile into your VPN client. You can then use Connect to connect using this profile. You will need to login using your Solis-ID and password.

After connecting, you can access your home directory or the webserver directories.

  1. In the Finder, choose Go > "Connect to Server."
  2. Type the network address for the computer in the Server Address text box using one of these formats: smb://DNSname/sharename smb://IPaddress/sharename
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions to type the workgroup name and a user name and password, and choose the shared folder you want to access.
If you connect to the shared folder using Connect to Server, its icon may appear in the Finder window Sidebar or on your desktop.

For staff members, use smb://home.cs.uu.nl/username to access your home directory. Use smb://wwwfs.cs.uu.nl/www for the shared webtree (including the subjects pages) and smb://wwwfs.cs.uu.nl/personalsite/username for your personal webpages.

For students, use smb://home.students.cs.uu.nl/username to access your home directory. Use smb://wwwfs.students.cs.uu.nl/homepage/username to access your personal webspace.

Printing for staff members
Only useful if you are in the building the printer is but still use VPN. Don't print stuff you are not going to pick up.

Set up a new queue with type IPP and servername printserver.cs.uu.nl. For the queuename enter /printers/printername. The /printer part is needed! Replace 'printer' with your favourite queuename. Select the appropiate driver. Look at our printing page for available printers and drivers to select.
