Wireless network access

Wireless network access is available in a growing number of university buildings.

You can use one of the following advertised networks:

SSID 'eduroam' uses WPA2 authentication and works for both users from this university and visitors from universities / schools participating in eduroam. Log in with solisid@soliscom.uu.nl and your solis password.

Set up eduroam correctly once and you will be able to log in on every campus which supports it in the world. This is the preferred configuration.

SSID 'SOLIS-AIR' uses 802.1x authentication. You can access Internet after authenticating, you cannot access internal cs.uu.nl services such as your home directory.

SSID 'WLAN-UU' has no security, but you will need to log on via a web portal to gain more access or use a VPN client.

Windows Mobile

Windows mobile is not officially supported. What has worked for people is to download the SecureW2 client directly from the producer, set it up to use an anonymous outer identity and solisid@soliscom.uu.nl as inner identity.

Linux

Modern Linux distributions understand WPA2 Enterprise. Set solisid@soliscom.uu.nl both as outer and inner identity and use the eduroam network. In some cases the outer encryption is not set up correctly: use PEAP.

Iphone / Ipod touch

Follow the instructions for eduroam.

Nederlandse versie

Er is draadloos netwerk in een groeiend aantal gebouwen van de Universiteit Utrecht.

SSID 'eduroam' gebruikt WPA2 toegangscontrole en werkt zowel voor gebruikers van deze universiteit als bezoekers van andere universiteiten die meedoen in eduroam. Log in met solisid@soliscom.uu.nl en je solis wachtwoord.

Stel een keer eduroam correct in en je kunt het overal in de wereld gebruiken waar het ondersteund wordt. Dit is de voorkeurs configuratie.

SSID 'SOLIS-AIR' gebruikt 802.1x toegangscontrole. U kunt het Internet benaderen na verificatie. U heeft hiermee geen toegang tot interne cs.uu.nl diensten zoals uw homedirectory.

SSID 'WLAN-UU' heeft geen beveiliging, maar u komt hiermee niet ver. Voor meer toegang (Internet of cs.uu.nl diensten): gebruik een VPN client.

Eduroam

Eduroam is a service where users at participating universities worldwide can use the login credentials for their own university to log in at other participating universities.

Users from Utrecht University can use their Solis-ID (in the solis_id@soliscom.uu.nl form) to log in to other Eduroam networks worldwide. Your password will be sent via an encrypted tunnel back to the University so the place you visit cannot abuse your credentials.
